Facts:
•One of the most strongly allergenic materials found indoors is house dust, often heavily contaminated with the fecal matter and skins of House Dust Mites.
•Beds are a prime habitat (where 1/3 of life occurs). A typical used mattress may have anywhere from 100,000 to 10 million mites inside.
•Humans shed about 1/5 ounce of dander (dead skin) each week. About 80 percent of the material seen floating in a sunbeam is actually skin flakes. Also, bedroom carpeting and household upholstery support high mite populations.

Clean Air Solutions!
Insects and Pests: Storing grains and crackers in containers with strong rubber seals will help keep pests away.
Low Humidity: Lowering the humidity of your house can make it harder for dust mites to live. Save levels are anything lower than 70%. Dehumidifiers can help in summer months.
Infiltration: Though the fresh air might be nice, opening your windows can let pollens and other outdoor allergens into the home.
Dust: Vacuum your carpets often to decrease dust levels. Also, be sure your vacuum is emptied prior to use to ensure the best air quality. Vacuuming mattresses and padded furniture thoroughly.
Shampoo: Biannual carpet shampoos will help relieve allergens. Also, take blankets to the dry cleaner annually.
