Sports are a favorite here in Indiana. Professional, college, high school or recreational--it doesn't matter. Hoosiers love the thrill of competition! Indiana is often associated with March Madness and the basketball craze that sweeps over the state, but don´t be mislead. Hoosiers love all sports, especially football! Indianapolis is proud to call itself the home of the Indianapolis Colts, and our "True Blue" pride comes out in full force during football season.
Indianapolis became the home of the Colts in 1984 after the NFL franchise transferred here from Baltimore. In the 20 plus years the Colts have been in Indianapolis, residents have enjoyed the ups and downs of cheering for an NFL football team. The Colts have seen many great players in their time in Indianapolis, but never has it been any better than since the beginning of the 21st Century! In 1999, promising young players like Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison gave fans the hope of a successful team. In the years to come, a developing offense wowed spectators and later their defense began to further develop, giving fans many promising seasons. The Colts have finished each season since 2002 with a winning record, to include a thrilling 2007 Super Bowl victory!
The Colts kicked off their 2008-09 season in the new Lucas Oil Stadium. The state-of-the art facility, which features a retractable roof, field turf, and seating for up 63,000 fans, adds to the beauty of downtown Indianapolis real estate and skyline. As a result of this amazing venue, Indianapolis won the right to host Super Bowl XLVII in 2012!
