Location of Noblesville
Noblesville is the county seat of Hamilton county and is located 17 miles northeast of Indianapolis at the junction of State Roads 32 and 37. Interstate 69 is four miles southeast of the city.

History of Noblesville
Noblesville has a rich history dating back to 1818 when the land that is now Hamilton County was purchased from the Indians. William Conner, the only white man living in the area at the time, and his wife, a Delaware Indian, established the first trading post in central Indiana in 1802 and lived in the area's first log cabin.

William Conner and Josiah Polk submitted a plat of Noblesville in 1823, at the same time designating the town as the county seat. Noblesville was named either for James Noble, a state senator, or according to legend, for Lavinia Noble of Indianapolis, to whom Josiah was engaged. The Peru and Indianapolis Railroad was completed through town in 1851, the same year Noblesville was incorporated.

The city's largest growth boom came in 1888 with the discovery of Noblesville's first natural gas well near 11th and Pleasant Streets. Many Victorian homes, as well as the vast majority of the Downtown Commercial District, were built during this time of prosperity.

National Registry of Historic Places
Fifty-three buildings in Noblersville's downtown historic district have been named to the National Register of Historic Places.

Roughly bounded by Clinton Street, 10th Street, Maple Street, and 8th Street, the entire commercial district lies within the bounds of the original plat of 1823. Of the 64 bukldings within the boundaries of the district, 53 are considered as contributing to the overall historic and architectural character of the district.

Is Noblesville the Perfect Town?
Is there such a thing as the perfect town? Maybe not, but if you narrow your definition there's an easy way on the Web to compare cities' vital statistics. On Home Advisor.com, hit the "compare cities" link, and check off the criteria that matter most--lower crime than national average? Highly rated schools? Better air quality? Then search either within a region, at state, or throughout the whole coutry. For example, cities with school ratings over seven (on a scale of 10), 175 to 224 sunny days per year, and a cost of living index below the national average. Only 17 U.S. Cities fit the bill. In alphabetical order by state: Sherwood, Ark; Noblesville, Ind.; West Lafayette, Ind.; Ames, Iowa; Iowa City, Iowa; Urbandale, Iowa; Brandon Heights, Mo.; St. Peters, Mo.; Athens, Ohio; Bowling Green, Ohio; Clemson, S.C.; Vermillion, S.D.; Lake Jackson, Texas; and Missouri City, Texas.

Noblesville has been in this position for the last three years!
