Saxony Beach | Fishers IndianaOne of the best things about living in Fishers, Indiana is the opportunity for outdoor activities - from parks and ball fields to pedestrian paths and summer concerts.

The town's dedication to keeping the community active is what earned Fishers recognition as a 2013 Playful City USA Community, according to KaBOOM!- a national non profit that advocates increased outdoor play opportunities for children.

This is the 5th straight year Fishers has been named a Playful City USA Community.

The Town of Fishers added to its list of outdoor activities earlier this year with the opening of the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater. The venue will host, among other things, free country music concerts on the first Saturday night of the month during the summer.

The town is also encouraging residents to get out and get fit with its new Random Acts of Fitness program. During unscheduled visits to area parks, Town of Fishers staff members will award prizes to residents spotted participating in "random acts of fitness."  The program runs through Dec. 31, 2013.

Saxony Beach is another of the best things about living in Fishers Indiana. The 20-acre manmade Saxony Lake has a designated swimming area (complete with lifeguards) paddle boat and kayak rentals, a picnic shelter, and fishing holes. Admission is free.
